A 12-night trip that takes you through the cultural highlights of Sri Lanka, before a blissful all-inclusive break in the Maldives - with guided tours and all travel

This mesmerising escape kicks off in Sri Lanka, with a three-night stay in the Sigiriya region, where you'll visit the famous Lion Rock and its neighbouring Pidurangala Rock, as well as travelling by tuk-tuk and boat to explore the area. Itinerary

Day 1: Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Colombo.
Day 2: Arrive in Colombo and transfer to the Sigiriya region. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Sigiriya.
Day 3: Today, visit Pidurangala Rock, adjacent to the famous Sigiriya Rock and the best viewing spot of Lion Rock as it is only slightly lower. Pidurangala is a popular spot for sunrises. It is believed that the history of the temple at Pidurangala goes back beyond to the first and second century BC. Head back down the rock to enjoy a visit to a local rural village and an authentic Sri Lankan lunch. Enjoy a tuk-tuk ride and a peaceful boat ride on the nearby lake. Return to the hotel. Overnight in Sigiriya.
Day 4: Set off for a visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. Within its triple-moated defence, the huge rock rises to a sheer height of almost 500 feet. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous palace and gardens complete with swimming pool. Head back down and enjoy a Jeep safari at Minneriya National Park in the afternoon, famous for its large population of elephants. Alternatively, swap Minneriya National Park for an optional trip to Yala National Park (chargeable). Return to the hotel and overnight in Sigiriya.
Day 5: Head towards Dambulla. Visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla, a 2,000-year-old sacred pilgrimage site carved into the rocks. The walls and ceilings are covered with Buddhist murals and there are more than 130 Buddha statues. Next, on route to Kandy, enjoy visiting Spice Gardens and an authentic Batik Factory. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in the afternoon before arriving in Kandy, set on a plateau surrounded by breathtaking mountains. Transfer to the hotel. In the evening enjoy a lively and entertaining cultural performance for a taste of Sri Lankan culture. Overnight in Kandy.
Day 6: Leave for Nuwara Eliya (with the option to take a scenic train journey, for an extra cost), and visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya. The gardens display over 4,000 species of rare and endemic plants and trees. Spend some time here before moving to the tea plantations. Return to Kandy and spend your evening at leisure. Overnight stay in Kandy.
Day 7: Leave for Beruwala, a famous beach resort and a great location for water sports such as sailing, water-skiing, para-sailing, water scooters. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Beruwala.
Day 8: At leisure in Beruwala. Overnight in Beruwala.
Day 9: Transfer to Colombo to take your flight to Male, from where you'll transfer to Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa.
Days 10-13: At leisure at Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa, Maldives.
Day 14: Transfer to the airport to catch your flight home.
Day 15: Arrive back in the UK.

Amaya Lake, Dambulla (three nights)

You can truly unwind at Amaya Laka’s serene waterside location, set on the banks of Kandalama Lake. Mahaweli Reach, Kandy (two nights)
