Day 1: UK - San José

Arrive in San José and get familiar with your surroundings at your own pace, or join an optional gastronomic tour to taste your way around a few of the city’s neighbourhoods (£57pp). (Meals: none)

Day 2: San José - Arenal

Get your bearings with a tour of Costa Rica’s capital, visiting landmarks such as the National Theatre, the Metropolitan Cathedral and Central Market. You’ll then set out towards Arenal, stopping en-route at the Tilajari Butterfly Nursery, where you’ll learn about its graceful residents and stroll around the botanical gardens. In Arenal, spend the evening at leisure or head out on an optional Tabacon Thermal Springs excursion with dinner included (£107pp). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 3: Arenal

Spend the day at leisure, or take part in one of the optional excursions; a half-day horseback ride to Fortuna Falls through the rainforest (£56pp) or a full-day pedal-boarding trip on Arenal Lake, where you’ll pedal while spotting the wildlife around the river, plus enjoy a traditional lunch (£137pp). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 4: Arenal

Again, enjoy a day at leisure or choose between the optional excursions. You can opt to journey across the hanging bridges across the rainforest and learn about the plant and animal species that call it home (£62pp), or take a full-day trip to Caño Negro Nature Reserve, where you’ll take a boat trip to spot wildlife, from monkeys to bats, and more - you’ll also enjoy lunch on this trip (£64pp). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 5: Arenal - Tamarindo

Today, you’ll embark on an epic guided tour to Arenal Volcano, admiring the flora and fauna as you go. In the afternoon, you’ll head to Tamarindo, making a beeline for its beautiful beaches. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 6: Tamarindo

While away your day in utter beach bliss, or partake in one of two optional excursions: an estuary boat excursion to Las Baulas National Park (£32pp), bursting with bird- and wildlife, or a tree-top canopy tour at Hilltop Eco Adventure Park (£48pp). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 7: Tamarindo

You’ll have another day at leisure in paradisiacal surrounds, or explore further afield on water, with a catamaran tour (£81pp), or land, with a quad biking experience (£80pp). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 8: Tamarindo - Manuel Antonio

En-route to the protected coastal rainforest area of Manuel Antonio, you’ll stop at the Guaitil Pottery Village, known for its hand-painted pottery and ceramics, and observe the crocs of Tarcoles River from the safety of Tarcoles Bridge. On arrival at Manuel Antonio, spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 9: Manuel Antonio

Spend today exploring the area at your own pace, or take an optional hike through Manuel Antonio National Park, teeming with monkeys, sloths, reptiles and butterflies. You’ll also hike two miles to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, stopping to swim in its cool waters (£63pp). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 10: Manuel Antonio

Opt to enjoy a horseback ride taking you towards an idyllic waterfall (£63pp), or spend time on the beach at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 11: Manuel Antonio - San José

You’ll head back to San José, visiting the plants and animals of Carara National Park en-route (entry is chargeable). In the evening, opt to include a dinner and dancing show (£71pp). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 12: San José - UK

After breakfast, head to the airport for your flight home. (Meals: breakfast)

What is a deposit?

In short, you pay Secret Escapes a non-refundable deposit to secure your holiday, then you pay the holiday supplier the remaining balance of the holiday - as advertised - at a later date (before you travel).

We've added deposit-only sales to enable our members to get early-bird access to more amazing holidays, and because we know that planning and paying for a holiday can take time.
