Day 1: UK - Night on board

Head to your UK departure airport for your flight to Peru, and spend the night on board. (Meals: none)

Day 2: Lima

Arrive in Peru’s capital and transfer to the hotel. Spend your first day exploring the city and getting a taste of the incredible food Peru has to offer. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 3: Lima

Enjoy a guided city tour with visits to the Historic Centre and Santo Domingo Convent. Continue to the lively Plaza de Armas to admire the surrounding architecture, then pay a visit to the Chocolate Museum to learn about high-quality of Peruvian cocoa. On the way back to your hotel, swing by the Parque del Amor for panoramic Pacific Ocean views. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 4: Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco, the gateway to ancient Machu Picchu. You’ll transfer to the Sacred Valley, with a photoshop stop at Awanakancha en route. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 5: Sacred Valley

Enjoy a day at leisure in the Sacred Valley, or opt to take an excursion to see Chinchero with its church and textile centre, the Mirador de Racchi viewpoint, iconic Ollantaytambo and Moray archaeological site (£42 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 6: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Hop on the train to Aguas Calientes, admiring the landscapes along the way. Journey upwards to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu, one of the wonders of the ancient world. Spend time discovering the ruins, then transfer back to Aguas Calientes for the night. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 7: Machu Picchu - Cusco

Take the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu again, to take some more pictures and experience more of the site. Return to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon, then take the train back to Cusco. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 8: Cusco

Enjoy a day at leisure in Cusco, exploring the plazas and local museums. If you crave more adventure, opt to embark on an excursion to the Rainbow Mountain of Palccoyo, ascending it on foot for knock-out views, and taking part in a traditional Andean ceremony (£87 per person). You could also opt to take a half-day city tour of Cusco (£27 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 9: Cusco - Iquitos - Amazon

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Iquitos, the gateway to the Amazon. Meet your guide on arrival, then transfer to the port for a boat trip on the Amazon river, heading towards your riverside lodge. Arrive in time for lunch, and spend the afternoon on a jungle hike in the Yanamono rainforest reserve with an expert guide. Return to the lodge for a sunset boat trip. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 10: Amazon

Rise early for a birdwatching excursion by boat. Enjoy breakfast back at the lodge, then embark on a fishing expedition, learning local techniques - you might even be lucky enough to catch a piranha. Return to the lodge to lunch on your catch, then head back out on the river towards Yanamono Island to see giant water lilies. At dusk, hike through the rainforest to see nocturnal animals, then head back for dinner. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 11: Amazon

Visit a local indigenous community called the Yaguas, in their riverside town. Learn about life on the Amazon river, then return to the lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 12: Iquitos - Night on board

Enjoy a tranquil boat ride down the river to visit a family-run sugar cane distillery, enjoying a tasting session of the varied exotic beverages. Return for lunch, then transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Day 13: UK

Arrive in the UK. (Meals: none)

What is a deposit?

In short, you pay Secret Escapes a non-refundable deposit to secure your holiday, then you pay the holiday supplier the remaining balance of the holiday - as advertised - at a later date (before you travel).

We've added deposit-only sales to enable our members to get early-bird access to more amazing holidays, and because we know that planning and paying for a holiday can take time.
